Conflict has brewed between the widow of former Vice President Michael Wamalwa Kijana, Yvonne Wamalwa, and her two step-sons who are now embroiled in a heated legal battle over expenditures in his estate.
Through their sister Alice Muthoni, the two sons William Wamalwa Jnr and William Samuel claimed that Ms Wamalwa has not accounted for Sh3.4 million which was in their father’s briefcase during his death.
They also accused Ms Wamalwa of not explaining how the late Wamalwa's Sh36.7 million pension had been used.
Ms Wamalwa is now expected in court on March 20 this year to testify on why she has failed to honour court orders issued her in 2013.
The former Vice President died while undergoing treatment at Royal Free Hospital in London in 2003 and was survived by six children with his estate comprising 40 acres of land in Trans Nzoia (valued at Sh4 million), five acres of land in Kitale Milimani (valued at Sh500,000) as well as maize under cultivation on a 300-acre land in Kitale.
He also left behind a Range Rover and a Mercedes Benz 300S and according to the Standard, he had an account with StandardChart Bank, some 20 head of cattle and a death gratuity with pension under the Parliamentary Pensions Act.
