The Garissa County government has been told to foster education in Garissa to counter cases of insecurity in the region.
Criminology expert, Chris Wandei who was speaking in Garissa Town on Thursday said a large portion of the children in Garissa are not able to access quality education.
“Illiteracy adds a great deal to insecurity cases in the region which in most cases ends up in terrorism. Our youths are lured with goodies and great promises by terrorists and bandits and since most of them are idle and do not have a source of income they get into the trap,” said Wandei.
He added that the youth can easily be lured if they are ignorant.
“It is easy to convince an ignorant unlearned person and manipulate them. Education moulds one to be an upright citizen and without this, our youth can easily be swayed,” he added.
Wandei called upon the county government to foster education as a tool of fighting terrorism in the country.
