Four people were on Tuesday attacked and seriously injured by a criminal gang in Majengo Mapya area, Likoni.
Confirming the incident, Likoni deputy police chief Anthony Shimoli said the four were attacked by a gang of 20 members.
The suspects who are believed to be members of the Young Thugs criminal gang, were armed with pangas, knives and other crude weapons.
The four victims are currently receiving treatment after sustaining deep cuts on their heads and hands.
Mr Shimoli said they recovered several school bags and books that are suspected to belong to the suspects.
According to the police chief, school uniforms were also found inside the bags that were abandoned at the scene.
He said the suspects are believed to have changed into civilian clothes to avoid being noticed.
“Investigations into the incident have already started and we are in pursue of the gang members. We have recorded the names we found on the abandoned books, and used the same to contact their parents,” said Mr Shimoli.
The deputy police boss faulted area chiefs and their deputies for failing to take action against the criminal gang members.
“These young criminals are well known. They come from areas where we have chiefs and their assistants being government watchdogs, but they have not reported the matter until it happens,” he said.
