Four men were on Wednesday arraigned in a Nakuru court for robbery with violence after they were arrested and stolen goods worth Sh9 million recovered from them.

David Ndung'u, Gildraph Mwangi, Samuel Wanjohi and Charles Kang'ethe appeared before Chief Magistrate David Kemei where they all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court heard that on July 29 at Soilo area in Nakuru armed with pistols, the accused persons hijacked a lorry ferrying assorted bundles of polythene papers worth Sh9,900,120 property of Dennis Obira.

The men, aged between 30 and 45, were apprehended at Kayole estate within Nairobi after an undercover operation by the police where part of the stolen goods was recovered.

The four were charged following a series of high-profile robberies on the Nakuru - Eldoret highway where a group transit drivers have been robbed off goods.

Through their lawyer David Mong'eri, the accused persons applied to be released on bond pending hearing of the matter saying it is their constitutional right.

However the prosecution side objected the release, applying for a week to complete investigations adding that the lorry ferrying the goods was not yet recovered and if the accused persons are released they will interfere with the ongoing investigations.

Chief Magistrate David Kemei in his ruling directed the accused persons be remanded at the Nakuru prison awaiting hearing of their bond terms on August 22.
