The County Public Service Board of Elgeyo Marakwet has interdicted four employees linked to loss of public funds through falsification of payroll records.
Another employee has been issued with a show cause letter to commence disciplinary action.
According to a statement by Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos, the move follows the suspension of County Payroll Manager on 15th February, 2017.
Tolgos said investigations had found that the five employees were culpable.
"The five staff are drawn from the Payroll Section and the department of Finance. Offences against them range from preparation of falsified payroll records to negligence of duty," said Tolgos in the statement, Tuesday.
"Those who will be absolved of any wrong doing in the ongoing disciplinary process will resume their duties while those proved to have committed the offences will be sacked," he added.
The governor, however, assured Elgeyo Marakwet County residents his administration has taken stringent measures to prevent any similar loss of public funds.
"Through support from the World Bank, we are in the process of establishing a public service management system to streamline our payroll office and other matters relating to our human resource and financial management," Tolgos said.
