Four have lost their lives after consuming mutura (grid meat stacked into intestines) and drinking ‘chupu’ in Jua Lako, Kenlands, Nakuru Town West Constituency.
Among the dead, one was a clergyman attached to a Nakuru church.
Confirming the mournful incident, Nakuru County public health officer Samuel King'ori said that the county health department had launched investigations to know what led to the deaths of the four residents.
“Investigations have been launched to ascertain what led to the death of the four people,” said King'ori.
King'ori urged Nakuru residents to be careful when eating at unlicensed cafeterias and butcheries .
“Many hotels in Nakuru are operating illegally and there is need for residents to avoid such hotels,” said King'ori.
He promised to crack down on all hotels and butcheries operating illegally to avoid more health crisis.
“We will conduct a thorough crackdown on unlicensed hotels and butcheries, and arrest the owners,” said King'ori.
Jack Maina, a survivor of the ill-fated incident says that he has been sick for the last few hours after consuming the same 'mutura' and he says that it is only due to the grace of God that he still lives.
Meanwhile a butcher was today arrested at Nakuru CBD after health officers made a swoop on his butchery.
The officers acted on tip-off from members of the public. The raided to man’s butchery and arrested him for operating without a license from the health department.
Confirming the arrest of the suspect, Nakuru OCPD Bernard Kioko said that they would arraign the suspect to court once investigations were through.
