Four people have died in a road accident in Mbooni, Makueni County.

They died on the spot while tens of other passengers sustained serious injuries after the vehicle they were traveling in plunged into a ditch at Kwa Solo area along Kikima-Mbooni road on Friday evening.

Confirming the incident, Mbooni deputy county commissioner Kibe Maguta said the fatal accident occurred after the vehicle's driver lost its control making it plunge into the ditch.

Maguta said those involved in the accident were traveling from a funeral service in Kitungu when the incident occurred.

He said the bus belongs to Achievers Academy in Utawala, Nairobi County.

The deputy county commissioner said the victims are undergoing treatment at various hospitals including; Mbooni Level three, Makueni Level Four and Machakos Level Five Hospitals.

Maguta said the bodies had been removed to Mbooni Level Three Hospital's mortuary for preservation, awaiting identification by kins.

Ukambani leaders have come forward to push for the abolishment of hiring of school buses.

Kalama MCA Paul Nyanzi said most drivers of school buses are unfamiliar with the terrain in many areas thus leading to road accidents.
