Four Kenyan referees have gotten a nod to officiate a host of matches during the up-coming Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) senior challenge cup.

The annual tournament kicks off on Sunday, with hosts Kenya playing Rwanda in the opening match.

CECAFA Referees Committee has drafted a list of 16 referrers, with four Kenyans among them.

According to soka.co.ke, the list was arrived at after members of the committee conducted fitness tests for the 16 referees set to officiate at this year’s showdown Friday morning, at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.

The four Kenyans are Tonny Kidiya, Peter Waweru, Anthony Ongwayo and Joshua Achila.

CECAFA Secretary General Nicholas Musonye has congratulated the referees and urged them to exercise high levels of professionalism, for the entire period of the tourney.

The other 12 referees have been selected from Burundi (2), Rwanda (2), Uganda (3), Tanzania (2), Ethiopia (1), South Sudan (1) and Zanzibar (1).

The final match of this year’s edition of CECAFA will be played on December 17.

Kenya won the title the last time we hosted CECAFA back in 2013, under former coach Adel Amrouche.
