Confirming the incident, Head of Special Crimes Prevention Unit Noah Katumo, said officers trailed the thugs from Wangige, Kiambu County, where they had reportedly attacked a motorist, and made away with an unknown amount of money.

The thugs, who have been linked to the murder of a businessman in Kikuyu, are said to have attacked five motorists in the area before driving off.

Katumo said two pistols and 24 bullets were recovered from the thieves, who were heading to Athi River in a Nissan X-Trail, which was spotted on a CCTV camera along the highway.

“A team was dispatched to pursue them when the shooting happened near Cabanas. They were linked to a series of other incidents in Kikuyu area,” said Katumo, as quoted by the Standard.
