Four members of a family were swept away by raging floods in a village in Marsabit County, Standard reports.
Locals and police say they suspect the bodies of the mother and her three children are in Lake Turkana. Those missing and presumed dead were identified as Baryo Yierat Dasanach, 42, her children Lochuma Yierat (three), Galte Moroto (Four) and Moroto Lochuma (five).
Marsabit County police commander Bernard Kogo said efforts to trace them were futile because the entire village in Ilereti was flooded following heavy downpour that was experienced there.
"It has become impossible to go there and establish their status since the flooding happened on Tuesday night," said Kogo. A chopper was sent to the area to help in checking if there are more casualties.
Kogo said the area had experienced heavy rainfall causing flooding in an entire village. Most areas in northern parts of Kenya are experiencing heavy rainfalls after a long drought.
