Doctors in Kisumu have reported that four residents from the lakeside city who were shot during Thursday’s repeat poll will leave with bullets lodged in their bodies for the rest of their lives.Kisumu Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o at a press briefing on Friday said Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital CEO Juliana Otieno briefed his office that medics attending to the victims of police shooting had concluded that any attempt to remove the bullets would endanger the victims' lives.More than 20 people sustained gunshot wounds during running battles between police and protesters who were against the distribution of polling material in the county.Kisumu is among four Nyanza counties where polling was canceled by the IEBC as election material could not be distributed for security reasons.“We have been informed by the doctors that four among those who were shot will have to live with bullets lodged in their bodies for the rest of their lives,” Nyong’o said.“I have declared one week of mourning in Kisumu because of the massive bloodshed, and during this time, nothing will happen, including the repeat election on October 28, as ordered by IEBC,” he added.Several people suffered gunshot wounds during the five-hour raid in the slums of Obunga, Manyatta, Nyalenda and Kondele.
