A lot of disappointments were witnessed in last year's general election when some seasoned politicians lost to new entrants in Kisumu county.
Barely a year after the polls were concluded, new alliances have started being formed in preparation for the 2022 battle.
Many leaders in the county have aligned themselves with different politicians whom they feel are key to their success.
It is, however, important to note that the politics of Kisumu county will be determined by four leaders who include;
1. Onyango Oloo
He is the current Speaker of the Kisumu County Assembly.
Oloo, a former supporter of President Uhuru Kenyatta ditched the ruling party in 2017 and joined Opposition Leader Raila Odinga's team.
He vied for the Kisumu Central parliamentary seat. but lost to Fred Ouda.
After losing the parliamentary race, he contested the speaker's seat and won.The fact that he won the speaker's seat means he is loved by the ward reps.
Ever since he ascended to the position, he has gained massive following in the region.
Going to 2022, he will be a keen force, and the person he supports for Governor and Senator may easily win.
2. Ruth Odinga
The former Deputy Governor has a huge following in the county owing to her relationship with Odinga.
Her decision to vie or not in 2022 will be a key determinant of the region's politics.
3. Shakeel Shabir
The Kisumu Town East MP successfully defended his seat as an independent candidate. A move to rejoin ODM or any other will surely change the county's politics.
4 Olago Alouch
The Kisumu Town West MP succesfully defended his seat on Ford Kenya party ticket .
He is a key determinant of the region's politics especially because of the fall out between Odinga and Wetangula.
If he ditches Ford Kenya and joins Odinga's team he will create a fierce battle.
