The Maa community has suffered four major blows in the last five years after losing the community's key leaders.
With the death of former Internal CS Joseph Nkaissery who passed on, on Saturday morning, the grief has been heaped onto a community trying to forget the scars left by other heroes.
The following is the list of prominent Maa leaders who have died in the last five years
1. Joseph Nkaissery
He was among the Maa leaders who was vocal in voicing the needs of the community.
Until his death, Nkaissery had been lobbying the community to rally behind President Uhuru Kenyatta’s reelection bid
2. William Ole Ntimama
He died in September 2016.
Ntimama who was the Maasai spokesperson.
He died a natural death at his home in Melili, Narok County.
Ntimama served as Narok North MP for 25 years before retiring from active politics on September 14, 2013.
3. John Keen
The veteran politician John Keen died on December 25, 2016 aged 90.
His death occurred at Nairobi's Aga Khan Hospital where he was receiving treatment.
Keen once served as assistant minister in the 80's during Daniel Moi's era.
4. Prof George Saitoti
The prominent Maa leader died in 2012 in an airplane crash.
The Internal Security CS died together with his assistant Orwa Ojodeh.
He died in Kibiku, Ngong Forest together with four police officers.
