Even though Nyayo Torture Chambers are known as detention facilities, as history have it, the chambers might have acted as a motivation center for some detainees, who are now cross checking the government.
Some of the survivors that are currently keeping the government on toe include:
Hon. Raila Odinga.
After the attempted coup in 1982, Raila Odinga was held in horrible conditions and tortured at the Nyayo chamber. He was sent to the coolers for nine years.But currently, the chief opposition leader is always keeping the government on toe and his action means a lot to the country due to his large political support base.
Dr. Miguna Miguna.
While in the University of Nairobi, the outspoken lawyer became a student activist and criticized the Moi regime. This led to his arrest to police station later to the Nyayo chambers for two weeks after which he fled to Tanzania on foot.
Recently, he is fighting for revolution and the end of the jubilee regime, a move that have led to deportation.
Dr. David Ndii.
According to the book We Lived to Tell: The Nyayo House Story, the economist is listed among the detainees released without charges.
He has criticized social injustices and inequality calling for secession.
Oduor Ong’wen.
He was compensated 5 million shillings after the torture in the Nyayo chamber.
Oduor was Steering the People’s Assembly before it was suspended. He is also the Executive Director of ODM and facilitated the swearing in of Raila Odinga as People’s president.
