The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has shut down four popular clubs in Nairobi over noise pollution.

Police and officers from the authority raided the club on Wednesday night to serve closure notices following numerous complaints from residents living around these entertainment sports.

The authorities say the operation licenses of B-Club, Kiza, Space Lounge and Jiweke Tavern will be reinstated after they have complied with the laid down laws.

“We received a bit of resistance from the clubs, because when we went to B-Club the people were there but they took off, so we have left the order with the security officer, Kiza they are okay the took the order, Space Lounge there was a bit of resistance and refused to sign the order,” said Wangui Mukiri, Director of Environment, Nairobi.

This is not the first time the authority is warning the clubs, with several complaints having been lodged earlier about Space Lounge.

“We will come back again of Friday to check whether they have complied, if they do not, of course we are going to make arrests.

NEMA says the clubs have defied earlier warnings from even the county government to sound-proof their premises.

“We will close them until they demonstrate to the authorities that they can soundproof the facilities to the required standards, and that they can maintain the permissible levels.
