Two suspects linked to the theft of 17 dairy cows in Berut area in Rongai were on Friday arraigned before a Nakuru court.
Edwin Cheruiyot and Bernard Rono were accused of allegedly stealing 17 high grade cows valued at Sh3.4 million belonging to Martin Sambu on the night of August 5, and 6, at Berut area in Rongai.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Joel Ng'eno, Cheruiyot and Rono pleaded not guilty and were released on a surety bond of Sh100,000 each with an alternative cash bail of Sh50,000.
The prosecution told the court that the same case has other related files before other courts which were coming up for hearing.
The case will be heard on October 17.
In the same court, Michael Mburu and John Kashera were charged with theft of two high grade cows valued at Sh65,000 belonging to Rabby Chepng'tich on September 17, at Rongai Farm in Nakuru.
Mburu was charged on an alternative account of handling stolen property after he was found to have retained the said cattle at Ol-Rongai. They both pleaded not guilty and were released on a Sh30,000 cash bail pending the hearing on November 11.
In a similar case on August 13 involving cattle theft, Bernard Mutai was charged with the theft of 17 cattle after 6 cows valued at Sh1.2 million were found in his possession at his home in Roret area in Bureti Sub-County in Kericho.
Mutai denied the charges and was released on a surety bond of Sh600,000 and an alternative cash bail of Sh300,000 pending the hearing on September 21.
