Police in Kisii yesterday apprehended four men suspected of theft and vandalism in the area, resulting to the loss of millions from area residents.
Bernard Makau, John Omweno, Cyprian Ogutu and John Kimani were arrested at different locations following tip-offs from residents and subsequently arraigned before Lady Justice Ruth Sitati at the Kisii High Court.
According to Kisii OCPD Tom Mutsya, the accused have allegedly stolen millions shillings through robbery with violence and have been pursued by the police since February last year.
“We have been investigating their uncouth conduct for close to a year. In fact, we apprehended two of them and disappeared from police cells under anonymous circumstances," the police boss said.
"We have finally caught up with them and this time round we will ensure they are charged with robbery.”
The four were charged with robbery with violence but denied the allegations. They were represented by lawyer Ondieki Mosomi.
The suspects were, however, denied bail following a request from prosecutor Tom Ondieki to remand them since they might sabotage investigations that are already ongoing.
“Your honour, the prosecution has already started investigations and we are of the opinion that they are remanded since they might jeopardise the investigations,” he said.
According to the police, the four were involved in a theft in which a prominent businessman in town lost millions of shillings following a night raid in his residence at Milimani estate.
