The Kisumu International Airport (KIA) is located in the outskirts of the lakeside city along the Kisumu - Busia highway.
It serves a huge number of passengers on a daily basis and operates several routes.
Here are some of the things you didn't know about KIA:
1. The Kisumu Airport emerged out of the second World War where it was developed mainly for millitary use.
It was set up strategically to support amphibian type of aircraft landing in the neighbouring Lake Victoria.
2. It is the third largest airport in the country.
3. It was the fourth airport to be upgraded to an international level in the country.
4. The airport has a new terminal with the capacity to handle 700 passengers an hour which translates to two million passengers per year.
