A Mombasa Court has been told that four women who are facing charges of being members of Al-Shabaab had been communicating with unknown people in Somalia.
In the case, the four accused persons, Ms Ummulkheir Sadri Abdalla, Ms Khadija Abubakar Abdulkadir, Ms Maryam Said Aboud and Ms Halima Adan were facing charges of being members of Al-Shabaab and planning an attack in the country.
The four accused were arrested at the border in Mandera on March 27, 2015 while allegedly trying to cross the border to Somalia to join the Al Shabaab terror group.
Investigating officer Joseph Kolum told the court that the four accused person had been in constant communication with people in Somalia before they were arrested while on route to the country.
Mr Kolum told Chief Magistrate Erick Makori that an analysis of the suspects’ phone call records indicated that they had frequent communication before they planned to travel to Somalia.
The four accused persons were also charged with arranging terror meetings, conspiring with terrorists and being in possession of terrorism materials.
The hearing continues on March 19.
