Governor Alfred Mutua has warned members of the public to be on the look following a creation of a Facebook account calling on job seekers to pay cash to secure employment abroad.
Mr Mutua on his official Facebook account on Wednesday said the account targets Kenyans applying for jobs in the Middle East.
"I wish to notify the general public of a fraudulent scheme by some individual(s) to pretentiously obtain money by publishing information on social media, purporting to originate from me, calling on Kenyans to send money to secure employment opportunities in Dubai and other foreign capitals," Mutua said.
"The impostor has set up a Facebook page bearing semblance of my official Facebook account. I have since reported this matter to the police to investigate and bring the operators of the parody account to justice. Meanwhile, please report the fake page to Facebook management for immediate closure of the account. Be warned therefore that the Facebook account is a fraudulent Facebook account."
Mutua made the warning less than a month after returning to the country from a one-month long trip to Tanzania, Dubai and Indonesia.
After his arrival from the journey widely criticized by Cord Co-Principal Kalonzo Musyoka, he announced he had secured 2,000 employment opportunities for the youth in the county in foreign countries.
