On May 8, John Matiang'i who is a brother to the Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i said he has personal reasons why he declined the offer and is incapacitated to serve in two positions currently.

He expresses his feelings of refusal of the job by writing a regrettable letter to Atwoli, giving him reasons why he declined the offer.

"Due to personal reasons, legal challenges and the current legislation that entrenches the position of SRC Commissioners as a full time job and considering the fact that I am also a full-time employee of KNUT, then this leaves me with only one option of regrettably declining to take up the nomination to this position,” said Matiang'i in his letter.

In a letter dated April 23, to the Chief of Staff and Head of Civil Service Joseph Kinyua by Francis Atwoli, the brother to Matiang'i was nominated among others in the Salaries and Renumeration Commission (SRC).

The KNUT treasurer however, was thankful for the offer saying he had so much appreciated.

He also said that he will be capacitated to give his service in future if given the opportunity.
