October being the official breast cancer awareness month has seen many campaigns by hospitals and health practitioners sensitizing people on the disease.

 Breast cancer mainly affects women, but men are also being diagnosed with the disease.

The best way to defeat this disease is to get early testing.

Nairobi Women’s Hospital

The hospital is offering free breast examination and discounted cancer screening tests on pap smear at Sh900, prostate at Sh1,500 and breast ultrasound from Sh3,000.

This programme would be running until the end of this month in all Nairobi Women’s Hospital branches throughout the country. It’s open on a daily basis from 8 am to 5 pm.

Mater Hospital

Mater Hospital branches (Development House, Westlands, Buruburu, Embakasi, and Thika) have been having free breast examination throughout the month every Friday from 8am to 1pm.

Additionally, the hospital has drastically reduced mammogram, breast ultrasound and pap smear charges throughout the month.

The Aga Khan University Hospital

The Aga Khan University Hospital has a one-stop breast care center that was launched with the aim of providing Kenyans, especially women with easy, quick specialized cancer consultation in Kenya.

 The hospital also dedicates a half-day for free screenings in October on Saturdays from 8am to 1pm.

Nairobi Hospital

Located along Argwings Khodek Road in Nairobi, the hospital will be offering free breast examination this weekend starting from  9am to 3pm.

Family Health Options Kenya

A non-governmental organization, Family Health Options Kenya launched a free breast and cervical cancer screening in Kibera this week.

 The services are offered at Makina Baptist Church.

Beth Mugo Foundation

The Foundation is an initiative of nominated Senator Beth Mugo who was diagnosed with cancer in 2011, but was declared cancer-free the following year.

Last weekend, the foundation organized a curtain raiser for the official launch of Beth Mugo Cancer Foundation, which will take place on October 24 at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Kenyatta National Hospital

The hospital will be screening for breast and cervical cancer from October 24th to 28th.

Cancer Awareness Centre

The organization has been conducting cancer awareness campaigns and screening programmes to sensitize the community on early cancer detection strategies and other related terminal diseases as well as preventive care in cancer eradication.

Pandya Memorial Hospital, Mombasa

The hospital would be offering free breast cancer screening on October 26-27th from 8am to 5pm.

 The hospital will also conduct (Body Mass Index)BMI testing and free health education.

Ladnan Hospital

Located in Pangani, Nairobi, the hospital is offering free breast cancer screening and other specialized cancer tests at subsidized rates throughout this month.
