Machakos Industrial area women’s prison inmates on Wednesday afternoon received free cancer screening services.
The exercise took place at prisons ground and was conducted by nurses and doctors from Dr Geoffrey Mutuma Hospital.
Speaking during the event Machakos County Women representative, Dr Susan Musyoka, called upon the public to regularly get tested and screened for cancer.
“Every person should be tested regulary for diseases such as cancer. If cancer is diagnosed early there possibility of it being treated,” said Musyoka.
She added that early diagnosis also can lead to proper medication hence living a normal, quality life even when one has the disease.
Musyoka further gave the details of Kenyan cancer diagnosis and the sickness records.
“We are losing very many lives through cancer in our country,” notes Musyoka.
Dr Musyoka further noted that most people affected by cancer are below 70 years.
In attendance was also a cancer survivor patient who advised the inmates on how to live healthy life.
“These days cancer is mostly caused by our lifestyle and the kind of food we eat. Most people ignore natural foods that are healthy and have no chemicals,” said Musyoka.
She urged to be involved in exercise and stop taking junks for better living.
