The Kiambu County government has organised a free kidney screening exercise as part of activities marking World Kidney Day today (Thursday).
The free screening according to a statement posted on the county’s official facebook page will be taking place at the Thika Level Five Hospital today.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday at Kiambu headquarters, County Chief Executive for Health Jonah Mwangi urged residents to come out for screens.
He said that kidney ailments are one of the leading diseases in the county adding that it can only be prevented and treated when detected at an early stage.
“We encourage locals to turn up for kidney screenings as we mark the World Kidney Day on Thursday (today) at Thika Level Five Hospital,” he said.
Mr Mwangi said that the county government had put in place proper mechanisms to combat diseases more so the non-communicable diseases.
He urged residents to observe good lifestyles in a bid to curb the rising cases of non-communicable diseases.
The World Kidneys Day aims at creating global awareness on the disease.
The year’s World Kidney’s Day theme is ‘Kidney Disease and Children, Act early’.
