The first batch of students under the free day secondary education programme is set to report to school starting tomorrow, Tuesday.
The students will report after all the schools have received the government procured textbooks, with schools in 15 counties receiving the textbooks today.
Schools with boarding schools, national schools and extra-county schools in urban centres of Nairobi, Nakuru, Mombasa, Kisumu as well as Eldoret Sh53, 554 while other schools will charge Sh40,535.
Last week, the president launched the distribution of the textbooks to different schools, with the programme set to run through this week.
The president added that the programme cost Sh29 million, and they have set aside more funds to ensure the education sector is improved.
“My government has released, approximately Sh30 million to all secondary schools in the increased capitation plan of supporting each and every learner with up to Sh22,400 to ensure that secondary education is accessible to all our children,” he said.
He added: “We want to ensure we have equity across the country, in terms of availability to education and equality to ensure that as it was there before, children who are not of age and could not access education are now able to easily access this,”
