All Nairobi county public secondary schools are to be connected to a free Wi-Fi network in a project expected to be launched by the county government.

Speaking to journalists at Marura Primary School, Kariobangi North, on Wednesday morning, Nairobi governor Evans Kidero revealed that his government had budgetted Sh100 million for implementing the project in its next financial year.

“We want to bridge the electronic divide between private and public schools in the county and also make sure that computers are useful. This can only be achieved by providing Wi-Fi connectivity to all public secondary schools in Nairobi County,” said Kidero.

According to the plan, all the 85 public secondary schools in Nairobi will get connected in an effort to revolutionalise learning in public institutions.

Kidero further said that his government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with two organisations, Computer for Schools Kenya and Bridging the Gap, to supply computers for the schools while the county provides connectivity.

“We have signed a memorandum of understanding with Bridging the Gap and Computer for Schools Kenya which will provide 20 computers to each of those schools as soon as the project is rolled out while we provide connectivity,” he said.
