This comes after the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) launched investigations after some containers which are said to have disappeared from the Port of Mombasa, were allegedly found at the freight station.

However, the company’s managing Director Mr Ben Awiti, has said it was unfortunate for the media to make such reports without confirming facts with the top management, saying that the statement had damaged the company’s good reputation.

“We want to encourage members of the press to practice professional journalism by reporting facts. If the member of parliament was questioned then that was on a personal basis and has nothing to do with Awanand,” said Mr Awiti.

The manager further said that all businesses done at the freight station were legal, adding that they even have KRA and Kebs offices at the company to clear cargos.

Speaking on Monday after being grilled by KRA officials, the MP denied the accusations, saying he was not involved in the matter.

“I was there for three hours in the morning. They said they cannot tell me how many containers are in question. I am very clean and in fact I am no longer the director there. If they have anything, they should call the manager and ask him or do investigations,” said Awiti.
