Photo; Terminal 1A at JKIA [Photo/businessdaily.co.ke]The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has awarded a contract to expand the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) passenger terminal to a French company Aeroports de Paris.
The KAA aims to expand the passenger capacity at the port from the current six million annually to 10 million by the year 2020.
In a statement, Aeroports de Paris (ADP) Chief Executive Officer Gratien Maire said that the contract is to expand 115000 square metres by merging three boarding stations and satellite buildings.
“The project involves a 115,000 square metre expansion, including the merging of three boarding satellite buildings,” the statement reads in part.
The statement further reads that the ADP will be in charge of everything from the architectural design up to the last bit of the structure.
“ADP Ingenierie will be in charge of the preliminary architectural design of the building, its interior architecture design and the design of baggage sorting systems and air bridges,” the company further says in the report.
The terminals to be merged include Terminal 1Aand Terminal 1E. The upgrade according to Kenya Airports Authority will elevate JKIA to a world class airport.
