A Sh 900 million road will be constructed in Gatundu North starting next month by the French government. The greatly awaited project’s commencement plans were reached at after a meeting between the national government and French government officials. The Kenyan government will consequently contribute 11 percent of the cost while French government will foot the remaining 89 percent. Area MP Francis Kigo Njenga, who was at the meeting that was attended by various French contractors and area MCAs, said the 10km road will take duration of four months before its completion. “We greatly appreciate the efforts of national and French government for this move to eradicate poor roads in the area. We expect the project to provide employment of our local people as well as improve tea transportation upon completion,” he said. Members of the public have been complaining about the state of the poor road, which serves tea and coffee farmers. Area MCA Samuel Kamau urged the contractor to do quality work to avoid recurrent maintenance which uses public funds. “The contractors should be keen while constructing this multi-million road to avoid regular maintenance which will use public funds that ought to have been used elsewhere,” he said.
