The announcement comes in few days after Ruto returned a traditional regalia he was feted with after being given the "tools of power" in a recent ceremony, the elders said the act of returning the regalia among the Tugen is a sign of invalidation.

"In Tugen culture, it is a taboo to return a garment or any other item after crowning someone. It automatically means the entire process has been revoked or rendered invalid," said Mr Joseph Noti, a Tugen elder.

The leaders further stated that the decrowning of Ruto was because the event was conducted without consulting the Miot(Council of Elders) as well as the Pokot and ilchamus.

The elders have since distanced themselves from the ceremony terming it a disgraced and urged the section of elders who crowned DP Ruto to apologise.
