Embattled IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba may have gotten a slight life line after four commissioners rejected changes by the commission chairman Mr Wafula Chebukati who said Chiloba will be among the senior officers sidelined in the 'clean up' process.
Vice chairman Consolata Nkatha, commissioner Abdi Guliye, Molu Boya, and Paul Kurgat have rejected the 'clean up' plans and even defended Chiloba and the secretariat.
“The chairman believes from his own investigations, he knows what went wrong with the August 8 polls that attracted a stinging rebuke from the Supreme Court, and that he can fix it. But other commissioners think he is acting too fast,” a senior IEBC official familiar with the developments told the Star.
So far only commissioners Roseline Akombe and Margaret Wanjala have stood with Chrbukati on his 'clean up' plans.
The changes by Chebukati have led to a split in the commission as by early Tuesday four out of seven commissioners resisted the chairman's radical changes which they termed as illegal and irregular. The four commissioners shot down Chebukati’s proposal to remove Chiloba, deputy CEO Betty Nyabuto and Director of Voter Registration Immaculate Kassait, Director Legal Services Praxedes Tororey and ICT Director James Muhati.
