Embu county residents have been urged to be on high alert after new cholera infections were reported in the area.
The County Director Health (CDH), Dr Stephen Kaniaru said the newest case was reported on Tuesday in Kamurugu area, Mbeere South Sub-county.
The case at Kamurugu now brings a total of 47 reported infections.
Cholera has so far claimed the lives of three residents from Kanduri, Embu East, and Mbeere South sub-counties according to Kaniaru the deaths were due to delayed treatment.
Water Resource Management Authority (Warma) revealed that most of the water sources have been contaminated with faecal matter.
“Cholera is still active in the County and since the beginning of the month, we have been receiving few cases here and there. From the tests, the likely cause of the outbreak is water and not food,” said Kaniaru.
