Public universities lecturers have threatened to down their tools should the government fail to implement their CBA at the end of October.

The lecturers issued a strike notice through UASU secretary general Constatine Wasonga said on Tuesday, accusing the university governing council of violating their rights.

"All our members in all public universities and their constituent colleges shall withdraw their labour and shall not resume duty until the 2013-2017 CBA is implemented," the letter said in part.

The lecturers are reportedly yet to receive a pay increment as agreed upon in March.

Prior to the agreement, the lecturers had gone on a 54-day strike, occasioning a paralysis in the education sector in higher learning institutions.

Should the lecturers engage in industrial action as threatened, close to half a million students across the 33 public universities could be affected.
