Barely a day after announcing its dissolution to join the Jubilee coalition, a fresh crisis has emerged in Ford People with a section of officials dismissing the move.
Vice chairman James Kenani and youth leader Steve Arika on Monday lashed out at chairman Albert Nyaundi for what they termed as lying to president Uhuru Kenyatta that the party had agreed to fold up and join Jubilee, adding that Ford People remains independent and will only support the coalition from outside.
"We don't want a situation where the President will fail to get votes because somebody is deceiving him that Ford People is joining Jubilee. We remain independent as a party though we are fully behind his reelection. Otherwise we are not vegetables or apples to be hawked," he said in apparent reference to Nyaundi's Sunday declaration that they had dissolved.
Kenani added that Nyaundi is an interim chairman and cannot therefore purport to make decisions on behalf of the party.
