It is now emerging that the retreat by the four NASA principals in Kilifi County on April 9 collapsed.

Reports say neither Raila Odinga nor Kalonzo Musyoka agreed to deputise the other.

Principals Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula also criticised the Technical Committee’s proposal that Raila be named the NASA candidate and Kalonzo the running mate.

The two leaders from Western Kenya said the selection was biased and meant to favour Raila. In fact, Wetangula walked out of the meeting.

It is also emerging that at the Vipingo Ridge meeting, only close aides of the four principals were allowed, a rule Raila is said to have violated.

Raila was reportedly accompanied by six advisers.

Wetangula, according to The Star, protested the presence of Raila’s ‘huge’ team from Capitol Hill at the retreat.

Wiper leader Kalonzo was accompanied by his campaign manager Rodney Okoth, a UoN law lecturer.

Mudavadi brought aide Kabatesi Kibisu while Bungoma Senator Wetang’ula was alone.

Raila brought, among others, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, NASA technical representative Abubakar Zein and political strategists Adams Oloo and ex-ODM coordinator Cesar Asiyo.

“The opposition chief (Raila) arrived with Suna East MP Junet Mohamed and his NASA technical representative Abubakar Zein. It violated rules, requiring only eight people attend, and it annoyed other principals,” reports The Star.

The NASA leaders will today retreat again in a bid to settle on a presidential candidate.

They have, in the media, maintained that they are united and NASA will not split up.
