Initially,  the petition had faced resistence from the NASA wing with legislators terming it 'mischiveous'.

But in his ruling,  Muturi said the petition filed by Mohammoud Sheikh was within constitutional limits thus his decision.

"He has a right as Kenyan to be heard. It will be upon members to decide whether it has merits or not," he said.

Should it sail through, a presidential candidate must have 70 years and below.

Technically, opposition leader Raila Odinga, 73, will be the casualty should he intend to be on ballot in 2022.

Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir faulted the speaker, insisting that the petition could sabotage President Uhuru Kenyatta's handshake with Raila.

"It was wrong to admit that petition because it may affect the spirit of reconciliation," he said.

But Majority Leader Aden Duale and his Minority counterpart John Mbadi said it was proper for the petitioner to be heard.
