A fresh row has emerged over the Waitiki land which sits at Shika Adabu area in Likoni Constituency.
The land issue was resolved in November 2015, after the land owner signed an MOU with the government, with the intervention of President Uhuru Kenyatta, following 20 years of controversy.
However, residents in the area are now accusing Likoni MP Masoud Mwahima of allowing strangers to invade the process, thus benefiting non-residents.
Mohammed Zani, a Shika Adabu resident, claimed that the scheme has been hijacked by rich tycoons who are only interested in acquiring huge parcels of land and selling them thereafter to big companies.
“It should be understood that this is a residential area and not commercial land. How come big companies are being set up in an area with families? There must be something wrong somewhere,” said Zani.
Rashid Maingu, a resident in the area, claimed the title deeds were issued out to close associates of the MP.
“The clean title deeds were issued out to people who are known by the MP. All the others were faulty with some bearing two owners,” said Maingu.
However, sources privy to the MP have rubbished the claims saying the matter was not being handled at the MPs office but rather by the National Land Commission.
