IEBC could be in more trouble after it emerged that 106 politicians were cleared to vie for the August 8 polls despite EACC's advice against the move.

The revelations came to light on Thursday by EACC vice chairperson Sophia Lepuchirit.

She was speaking during the Senate induction in Naivasha.

Lepuchirit said they wrote to the commission recommending that the candidates should be barred from vying.

"It was a thorny issue. We were surprised that IEBC cleared them. We said they did not meet the threshold of chapter six," she said.

She stated that majority of the cleared candidates were elected into the national aseembly.

The official defended the EACC on claims it is not doing enough, saying at least 60 county officials, including former governors, are facing charges while 17 have been jailed.

Lepuchirit added the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has 61,000 complaints which have not been investigated while 21,000 are in different stages.

IEBC is currently under scrutny over the mismanagement of the August 8 polls whose presidential results were nullified by the Supreme Court.
