Wrangles in the electoral body IEBC have persisted with Chairman Wafula Chebukati coming under sharp criticism from a section of commissioners led by Consolata Maina.
Earlier, a leaked memo revealed Chebukati’s frustrations to Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba whom he accuses of manipulating presidential results that were nullified by Supreme Court.
In a memo sent to newsroom, five commissioners distances themselves from Chebukati’s explosive memo to Chiloba.
“We wish to clarify that the contents captured in the memo to CEO were not discussed and sanctioned by the commission plenary,” read the memo.
It further says:”We wish to reassure the country that the commission is in the process of preparing for October 17th presidential elections.”
But two commissioners, Paul Kurgat and Margret Mwachanya have since distanced themselves from the memo arguing that they were not consulted.
The unfolding events show sharp differences within the commission and the secretariat with the country facing another election in few months time.
