Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria now claims he was used as a conduit to arrest former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama.
The two leaders of opposing political camps were arrested on Monday over hate speech allegations.
Kuria and Muthama spent the night at Pangani police station, with the police yet to make public their charge sheets.
In a video shared by Dennis Itumbi, Kuria states that his arrest was a bridge to get Muthama.
“You can’t arrest a single person without having Moses Kuria arrested as well. Moses Kuria has refused the idea that he is the one who will always be used as a bridge so that someone can be arrested,” Kuria says in the video.
The controversial lawmaker further claims that National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) chair Francis Kaparo told him that his remarks did not amount to hate speech.
“The statement in question was uttered a week ago… a whole week has gone by. I had a meeting with Kaparo and asked him about it and he said there was no aspect of hate speech in my utterance,” said the MP.
Kuria said he was innocent.
“Now that Muthama talked, you can’t arrest Muthama without arresting Moses Kuria as well. There is no point arresting an innocent man so as to get a guilty one,” he said.
