Animosity witnessed between the Judiciary and Executive arms of government could further escalate following the latest entry of a number of professionals from Gusii region.
In response to persistent attacks on the judiciary, a defiant Chief Justice David Maraga, on Tuesday maintained that judiciary will not succumb to pressure from presidency and parliament.
And a group of professionals from Gusii community now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to respect the rule of law as enshrined in the constitution.
“We have been monitoring the situation and it’s our disappointment that the president is violating the same constitution he vowed to protect,” said Erastus Mwencha on behalf of the team.
He further said:”As members of Abagusii, we shall also demand to know why the president is singularly targeting the Chief justice.”
For a couple of weeks now, Maraga has been subjected to scathing criticism from the president and a number of MPs allied to Jubilee party, who have regularly opposed nullification of Uhuru’s victory.
Similarly, protests have been organized in various towns within Kisii and Nyamira Counties in solidarity with Maraga and the team.
