Days after Machakos woman Jackline Mwende had her hands allegedly hacked off by her husband Stephen Ngila over infertility issues, fresh, interesting revelations have come to the fore.
The first version claims that Mwende was a woman of loose morals who slept with different men after throwing her husband out of their matrimonial home.
This is according to a Whatsapp screenshot, which showed that Mwende's hands were chopped off by one of her many lovers, and not the husband who now faces attempted murder charges.
The other two versions is that of a meeting with the Ngila's sister on the day of the alleged attack and a business deal gone bad.
Ngila’s sister Agnes Nthenge told the Star on Tuesday that he was with him on the fateful day at her rural home in Utithini village when news broke about the gruesome attack.
“All I can say is we were with Ngila in my house planning a function for our elder brother when he was called and told that his wife had been attacked," said Nthenge.
She said the family was surprised that Ngila was arrested when he visited his estranged wife at Machakos Level 5 Hospital the following day.
Another relative, Justus Muthama (called Nzele Ntheu), said that Mwende had been attacked before where a gang woke her up and hurled stones at her house after she refused to open the door.
Relatives also say that Mwende did not open her shop in Ilinge market for three consecutive days as she had gone into hiding in Wetaa Market.
Muthama revealed that Mwende had other male friends who came visiting and whom he believes helped her stock her shop.
"We suspect one might have felt shortchanged and planned revenge," he said.
Ngila's sister, however, says that because Mwende said Ngila attacked her, the family decided not to say much but leave the matter to God where she referred to the Bible story of Joseph.
A police officer acknowledged hearing the different accounts but maintained Ngila attacked Mwende.
“A lot of people are peddling all sorts of lies but the truth of the matter is that it is Ngila who attacked his wife and left thinking that he had killed her,” said Mwala DCIO Joseph Muguna.
The fresh revelations leave a lot to be desired. First of all, if it was a business deal that went sour, why would he pick on an innocent husband? It would have been very easy to just say that unknown people attacked her and leave her husband in peace, right? Could it be the reason she forgave him that fast?
And if Ngila actually attacked her, why after 7 years? What did her hands have to do with infertility, or were they having other issues that they don't want to tell us?
If at all Ngila is innocent why didn't he or his family speak out before it was too late?
The victim, 27-year-old Mwende, has since been showered with gifts, money for a year, a Sh10 million set of prosthetic arms and a new business while her husband Ngila, 34, has been charged with attempting to murder her on July 23 in Ilinge village.
The big question is, will we ever get to know the truth?
