Celebrated journalist-turned politician Mohamed Ali is currently leading in the Nyali Parliamentary race, with over 70 per cent of votes having been counted.
As at 5:55 am, the former KTN journalist famed for his investigative programme ‘Jicho Pevu’ was leading with 19,715 votes, against Said Abdalla of ODM who has garnered 11,984 votes.
Mohamed opted to vie as an independent candidate, after missing out on the ODM Party ticket despite being a close ally of party chairman Raila Odinga.
Speaking after the party primaries in April Ali indicated that the whole nomination exercise was mishandled by people who believed that he was not to be allowed to lead the constituency.
“At first we had only three polling stations that were open, the other ten which were my strongholds were closed until I complained that is when they were re-opened at 3 pm when some of the voters had already left,” said Ali when he spoke to a local newspaper after the nominations.
With a few constituencies to go, Ali might be fulfilling his political ambition; getting a chance to represent his constituents in the next parliament.
In Nairobi’s Starehe, musician Charles Njaguar also known as Jaguar has taken an unassailable lead, and might clinch the ticket to be in parliament next house.
His closest competitor Boniface Mwangi has already conceded defeat, having seen it impossible to cover the deficit.
In Embakasi East, former SONU leader Babu Owino is in the lead, with over 70 per cent of the votes having already been counted.
He has already garnered 33,760 votes against his closest challenger Francis Mureithi of Jubilee Party who has mastered 31,511 votes.
Former Redkyulass comedian, John Kiarie, popularly known as KJ, is also winning the Dagoretti South Jubilee Parliamentary primaries.
With 95 per cent of the votes counted, Kiarie is leading with 52,128 votes, followed at a distance by Dennis Waweru, who has garnered 12, 216.
