It seems Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) leaders and their supporters are determined to hit the streets longer than expected to show their dissatisfaction with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) over integrity issues.
This comes at a time the President, Uhuru Kenyatta, clearly told Cord leaders that he has no power to disband the electoral body since the new Constitution does not allow him do so.
Speaking in North Eastern where during his tour, Mr Kenyatta told Cord leaders Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula to use Parliament to disband the IEBC.
This only means that dialogue, which the Cord leadership had requested for with the ruling Jubilee coalition, may not happen thus leaving Parliament as the only alternative for solving the IEBC problem.
Cord has been reluctant to table a Bill in Parliament for IEBC to be removed from the office.
This now means Cord is set to hit the streets much longer to demonstrate against IEBC and its officials' continued stay in office.
But the problem is, will the demonstrations yield fruit?
The police have not shown any reluctance all through during the already conducted demonstration sessions and I do not think they will start come Monday.
Teargas and 'rungus' will be administered in plenty and only the wise persons will avoid such areas.
Cord leaders should seek other commendable and amicable means of solving IEBC issues rather than demonstrating.
A repeat of what happened during the 2007/2008 after elections should not be witnessed again as the country is still healing from that tragedy.
