A US-based Kenyan academician Innocent George Morara believes the county government of Nyamira can grow economically if the electorate choose ward reps who will legislate laws and adequately execute their oversight role.
Mr Morara, who was raised from a humble background that saw him sell vegetables in Nyamira and Waithaka to sustain his living, has been pushing for social-economic development in the county among them initiating water harvesting projects and motivational talks to local schools.
He believes MCAs have a direct responsibility to kick-start development in their areas of jurisdiction.
“Nyamira people have a better future which can be realised through the election of development-conscious MCAs because much of what used to take place at the national level has now been devolved. That is why I am running for the Bonyamatuta ward seat in 2017,” he told this reporter.
“Nyamira lacks capacity in the county assembly because many people don't know the importance of MCAs. They confuse it with the traditional councillors which isn't the case. We need people of integrity who cannot be taken for a ride by county executives and that is why I am ready for the job and calling on other visionary people to join the race,” he said.
The University of Western Michigan educationist with two masters degrees - International Development Administration and Public Administration - reportedly declined an offer to be a gubernatorial running mate saying deputy governors are mere flower-girls with more responsibility invested in MCAs and governors.
“A senior gubernatorial contestant approached me to deputise him but I declined because deputy governors are more or less flower-girls. We need more professionals like me to run for the MCA position to bring in more ideas on board,” he said.
Morara completed his studies at Egerton Universities in 1998 (Agribusiness management) but had to revert to doing manual jobs among them selling vegetables due to unemployment before securing a slot at Western Michigan University in the US.
