The national government is planning to set up a fruit processing factory at Shimba Hills in Kwale County.

Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya said  the county government will contribute Sh62.4 million for the factory project. He said this while  opening an ECDE classroom in Kubo South ward.

He told the local community that he had had a discussion with His Excellency the President of Kenya over the project, when the president visited the area last year and he committed to the project.

“You sent me to the President about the orange factory and I delivered the message. He agreed that the national government will set up a factory,” Mvurya said.

Mvurya stated that although it was the national government setting up the project the county government would chip in too. This is because the entire project from set up till the factory is up and running, it was set to transform the lives of the local community. From orange farmers, to the maintenance and construction crew, all will somehow get a piece of the cake.

Thanking the residents for voting him in, he said that the President will be bringing development to the county as fruits for their support in the elections of 2017.

“You gave us a second term.We promise with the help of the national government, we will initiate even bigger projects,” Mvurya said, adding that“ We made a resolve to change the standard of living. We promise you Kwale will never be the same."

He said nothing would disrupt their agenda for the county as they will remain focused on transforming the region and improving  lives of the citizenry.

This comes days after another fruit processing factory was launched in Makueni county by the Governor Professor Kibutha Kibwana.

The factory's will provide opportunities for local farmers and investors to own a stake and grow wealth, learn new technologies and learn aboutv alue addition to increase farm incomes. And as a result, the economies and livelihoods in these counties are set to grow.
