Athi-River based Kenol Filling Station has petitioned Machakos County Government to settle seven months debt to enable it run efficiently.
Addressing this reporter in his office at the station on Saturday, the company's supervisor Stephen Mutunga disclosed that the county government owes it Sh544,000.
"The Machakos County government owes Kenol Filling Station Sh544,000 which not even a cent has been paid in attempt of settling it," claimed supervisor Mutunga.
Mutunga alleged that the amount was fuel and oil cost which the company had provided for the government between May and November last year.
He said the government gave the company a Local Purchase Order (LPO) to provide tractors belonging to Mavoko sub-county with oil, diesel and super for that period when it was implementing free cultivation programme to the sub-county residents.
The supervisor said that failure to settle the debt has greatly affected the business stating that the government had since become reluctant to settle the debt making the company lose more while pushing for the settlements.
"The company is losing more since I have been making lots of trips to the county government in Machakos for follow ups spending money and time," said Mutunga.
He petitioned the government to effect the payments as soon as possible failure to which the company would seek legal address.
Mavoko sub-county's Deputy Agricultural Officer Hoseah Swanya who spoke to this reporter on phone confirmed that the county government indeed owes the company the said amount of money.
Swanya however said he was making follow ups with relevant county offices assuring the company that there are high hopes the company will be soon paid.
