The reduction of fuel prices announced on Wednesday by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) may be good news to motorists but may not be the same for travellers.
Joseph Mwangi, the 2TKY Bodaboda Association Chairman in Thika town has told journalists that the fares might not go down because of other factors.
"Reduction of fuel prices is welcome but may not necessarily mean a reduction of fares that we charge our customers," said Mwangi.
"We have various problems that we encounter here; the main one being the county government askaris. If they arrest you, they will not let you go before you part with not less than Sh 2, 000. This has to count in the fares that we charge," he added.
However, the operators say that the move by ERC is a positive one as they will be able to save more.
"The money we get here is used to feed our families and maintain these motorcycles. With fuel going down, we are advantaged," David Chomba, one of the operators said.
