This comes after the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) announced an increase in pump prices across the country.

The commission said petrol will retail at Sh80.96 per litre, while diesel and kerosene will cost Sh67.11 and Sh44.28 per litre respectively.

According to ERC's latest update, the new retailed pump prices will be effective from May 15 to June 14, 2016.

ERC pointed out that the price of Super Petrol increased by Sh3.54 per litre, Diesel by Sh4.14 per litre while Kerosene increased by Sh3.02 per litre.

The commission attributed the continued rise to the surge in the price of crude oil in the international market, which rose from 29 US dollars per barrel early this year, to the current price of 47 US dollars per barrel.

“The surge in the price of crude oil in the international market is what has led to a rise in the cost of refined products from late January 2016 for diesel and kerosene, and mid February 2016 for super petrol,” said ERC.
