Fuel consumers across the country will now pay higher pump prices after the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) announced on Tuesday June 14 that super petrol, diesel and kerosene had increased their prices by Sh1.92, Sh3.34 and Sh3.82 per litre respectively.
The calculated maximum retail pump prices of petroleum products will be in force from June 15 to July 14, 2016.
In a statement submitted by the commission, the commission revealed that changes came as a result of an increase in prices of the commodities during importation.
“This was a consequence of the average landed cost of imported super petrol increasing by 3.64% from US$ 472.95 per ton in April 2016 to US$ 490.18 per ton in May 2016. Further, the average landed cost of imported diesel during the period increased by 9.19% from US$ 374.60 per ton to US$ 409.02 per ton. In addition, the average landed cost of imported Kerosene increased by 12.63% from US$ 415.75 per ton to US$ 468.28 per ton.” Read part of the ERC statement.
This is the second month in a row the regulator has reviewed upwards the petroleum pump prices following a rise in global oil prices, the Energy Regulatory Commission has indicated in a statement.
